Peacocks Split Series at Missouri-St. Louis

The Peacocks split the series on the road against Missouri-St. Louis, dropping game one 8-7 before bouncing back with a 2-1 victory in game two.

Game One
The Tritons jumped out to an early 6-0 lead through two innings of action, highlighted by a three RBI triple with two outs in the second.

Ari Charles opened the third with a single to left field and she advanced to second as Laila Pelds was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Kylie Doty hit a double out to left center, bringing Charles home while advancing Pelds to third. The Peacocks were able to take advantage of a dropped fly to the outfield that was hit by Taylor Sedam, as Pelds and Doty both scored on the play to make it a 6-3 game.

Delaney Vetter recorded a three-up, three-down third inning where she struck out her fourth batter swinging. She recorded her fifth and sixth strikeouts in the bottom of the fourth, with both batters going out looking.

Sedam got on base at the top of the fifth as she was walked. With a runner on first, Addyson Alber launched a two RBI homer over the center field wall which cut the Tritons lead to one. Vetter continued to excel on the mound as she forced three quick outs in the fifth and struck out another two batters to close out the sixth inning.

With two outs and the game on the line at the top of the seventh, Alber was walked on a full count and Reagan Church hit a single to third base. Charles was able to get on base due to a throwing error and Alber scored on the play to tie the game. With runners on second and third, pinch runner Elliott Pomeroy scored on a wild pitch which put the Peacocks in a 7-6 lead.

Missouri-St. Louis opened the bottom of the seventh with a double out to left field. They were able to load the bases and eventually tie the game on a pair of walks. With one out and the bases loaded, the Tritons hit a single down the left side to score the winning run and secure an 8-7 victory.

Vetter pitched a complete game, striking out eight batters on the day. Alber hit 2-2 with two runs and two RBIs and Charles hit 2-4 with one run.

Game Two
The Tritons hit a double out to left field at the bottom of the first, and they took an early lead on an RBI single to right field. After opening the game with a strikeout against the first batter she faced, Buckman opened the second with another strikeout before forcing three quick outs.

Hannah Bridgewater opened the third with a single right up the middle. She was able to advance to second on a ground out and Rae VanMilligan was walked on a full count. With two outs, Pelds hit a two RBI double to left field to put the Peacocks in the lead by a score of 2-1.

UMSL opened the bottom of the fifth with a single on a bunt, but the Peacocks forced a ground out double play to help close out the inning. They found themselves with a great opportunity to tie the game as a single and a fielder's choice placed runners on second and third. With one out, the Tritons hit a line drive that was caught at third base. Buckman then struck out her fourth batter of the game, keeping the Peacocks in the lead.

The Tritons had one last chance to tie the game with a runner on second with one out, but the Peacocks forced two line drive outs to seal a 2-1 victory.

The Peacocks will be back with a double header tomorrow against McKendree at 12 and 2 p.m. in Lebanon, Ill.
