Peacocks Return to Robertson Woods Field in Series With Flyers

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK BASEBALL… The Peacocks return to Robertson Woods Field this weekend in a series against the Lewis Flyers. First pitch on Friday, April 12 is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will take place at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., while Sunday will wrap up the series with a single-game contest at 12 p.m.

PEACOCK LEADERS… Ethan Sawyer currently leads the team on offense with a .377 average and 33 hits, followed by Gunnar Wicklund at .308. Gabe Bombardier paces the team in RBIs with 24, while Wicklund trails behind with 22. Jared Hoodjer leads the team in home runs with six. 
 
Isaiah Maes has thrown 33.2 innings after starting seven games this season. He has struck out 24 batters and given up 30 earned runs. Abraham Sanchez has pitched 30.2 innings and has recorded an ERA of 4.70 while giving up 16 earned runs and ringing up 18 batters.
 
CONFERENCE STANDINGS… Maryville is leading the conference race with a 18-2 record, while Indianapolis is second with a 16-4 mark on the season. Drury sits in third at 15-3 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst is fourth (12-8) and has won seven games in a row. 
 
SCOUTING THE FLYERS… Lewis had been on a five-game losing streak before defeating Quincy 14-2 in their final game of the series last weekend, heading into this weekend with their first win since March 29. The Flyers are tenth in the GLVC standings with a 7-13 conference mark, and sit at 13-19 overall on the season.
 
LU is led on offense by Chris McDevitt, hitting .402. He is trailed by Mikey Kocen who is batting .366 with a team-high 41 hits and 37 RBIs. Michael Sclafani has pitched 43.1 innings allowing 48 hits and 20 earned runs. He has registered a 4.15 ERA. 
 
THE HISTORY… These two teams have met seven times in school history, the first head-to-head dating back to March of 2009 where the Flyers came out on top in a doubleheader by scores of 5-2 and 14-13. The Peacocks picked up their first win the following year in 2010, where they defeated Lewis 11-8 in Romeoville, Ill. 
 
Most recently, the two teams split a doubleheader in 2019 at a neutral site in Kirksville, Mo. Lewis took the first game 15-10, while Upper Iowa nabbed the second game 8-7. Lewis leads the overall series ahead five wins to UIU's two. 

DOWN THE STRETCH… The Peacocks are back on the road next weekend as they face the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield. The first game of the series is scheduled for Friday, Apr. 19 at 1 p.m.
