Hornets Outpower Peacocks With Fourth Inning Burst

Upper Iowa baseball traveled to the state of Kansas to take on Emporia State in their first contest of the week, falling by a score 12-0. The Peacocks moved to 3-2 on the season and the Hornets improved to 11-8 overall.

Neither team put any runs on the scoreboard until the second inning when ESU launched one over the left-center fence and brought two across the plate.

UIU's closest opportunity to score came in the top of third as they had a runner on second and third base, but the Hornet defense collected three outs to end the inning.

Emporia State opened up the scoring in the fourth inning as they tallied ten runs on seven hits to take the 12-0 lead. Neither team brought in any runs for the remainder of the game and the 12-0 mark stood as the final score as the game concluded in the seventh inning.

Upper Iowa tallied four hits on the day, as Ethan Sawyer went 2-3 at the plate, while Jared Hoodjer and Gabe Bombardier each recorded one hit.

Four pitchers stood on the mound today for UIU; Isaiah Maes, Brennan Sefrit, Gabe Olson and Nick Hartje. Maes (1-1) took the loss while Emporia State's Seth Stover picked up the win after allowing only three hits and zero runs, while striking out four batters.

The Peacocks go head-to-head with the Hornets again tomorrow at 3 p.m.
