The Peacocks battled the Panthers in a double header on Saturday afternoon, dropping the first game 9-3 and coming up just shy in game two by a 4-3 decision.
Jared Hoodjer recorded four hits on the day while
Ethan Sawyer tallied three.
UIU faces DU for the final time this weekend in a single-game affair on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Game one UIU-3, DU-9
The Panthers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game one heading into the fourth inning when the Peacocks brought in three runs in the bottom of the frame. They registered three hits and three runs behind doubles from Hoodjer and
Brock Zimmer, and a single from
JJ Vargas.
With Drury leading 7-3, they collected two more runs across the fifth and sixth inning for the 9-0 lead, which held for the remainder of the game as Upper Iowa was unable to bring any additional runs across the plate.
Isaiah Maes (2-2) started the game on the mound for the Peacocks. He threw for two innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out four.
He was relieved by
Nick Hartje who threw for four innings followed by
Thane Meiners who tossed for one.
UIU tallied six hits and three RBIs and DU registered 12 hits and nine RBIs.
Game two UIU-3, DU-4
The second contest went into extra innings as the Peacocks came from behind to knot the score at 3-3, but gave up the winning run in the eighth frame to fall 4-3.
The Panthers jumped out to an early start once again, commanding a 3-0 lead by the third inning.
Upper Iowa put up several runs in the sixth inning after a double from
Gunnar Wicklund brought around two.
A single from Hoodjer in the seventh inning brought in
Steve Marhefke to tie the game up at three apiece.
The Panthers had the bases loaded in the top of the eighth when a single to second base brought in their fourth run of the game to take the lead with one out.
The defense executed the next two outs, giving them one last chance at the plate. The Peacocks surrendered three straight outs, coming up short in game two.
Brady Stevens started on the mound for Upper Iowa. He allowed four hits and three runs during his three-inning stretch.
Jason Jennerjohn (0-2) gave up five hits and two runs in relief.
