Panthers Outpace Peacocks in Springfield

Upper Iowa baseball took on Drury in game one of their four-game series, falling by a score of 8-4. The Peacocks scored the first and last runs of the game, but allowed the Panthers to get their offense rolling in between. 
 
DU recorded seven hits and two RBIs, while UIU tallied four hits and four RBIs. Gabe Bombardier hit his third home run of the season and led the team in RBIs with two. 
 
Kyle Hrncir made his second appearance on the mound this season and threw for three innings, allowing two hits and five earned runs while registering five strikeouts. Brennan Sefrit relieved him and pitched for the remainder of the contest. He surrendered five hits and two runs, both earned.
 
Bahl earned the win on the mound for the Panthers as he tossed six innings and rang up nine batters while allowing two hits and three runs. 
 
Upper Iowa put their first run on the scoreboard in the first inning. With one out and the bases loaded, Brock Zimmer recorded a sacrifice fly that was sent to center field, driving in Bryce Hall
 
Drury responded with two runs in the top of the second behind two singles. Both runners crossed home plate after two wild pitches. 
 
The Panthers added four more runs to their total in the third inning, stretching out their lead to 6-1. They kept their momentum rolling as they brought in another two in the fourth inning, commanding an 8-1 advantage. 
 
UIU scored two runs in the sixth inning after Bombardier's home run, climbing to an 8-3 margin.
 
After two hits in the ninth inning and one run scored, the Peacocks came up short in their comeback effort. Their fourth and final run was brought around on a sacrifice fly from JJ Vargas
 
The Peacocks face the Panthers in a double header tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
