The Peacocks traveled to Liberty, Mo. for one nine-inning game against the Cardinals of William Jewell, falling by a score of 10-3. Conner Greuel paced the team at the plate going 4-4, while
Gunnar Wicklund added three hits, including one home run.
Upper Iowa tallied ten hits and two RBI's and William Jewell recorded six hits and ten RBI's.
The Cardinals got off to an early lead as they scored one run in the first inning, two in the second inning and another three in the third, jumping out to a 6-0 advantage.
UIU put their first run on the scoreboard in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded,
Bryce Hall lined out to the center fielder on a sacrifice fly, squeaking out one run before the end of the inning.
The visitors added another run to their total as Wicklund crushed a ball over the right-center fence to trail 6-2. However, just as the Peacocks crept closer, the Cardinals added another four runs in the bottom of the eighth, leading 10-2.
The Peacocks tacked on one more run in the top of the ninth but could not catch the home team and their offensive output.
Gabe Olsen (1-1) took the loss on the mound after throwing for three innings, allowing four hits and six runs, two of them earned. The Peacocks saw
Paxton Gravlin (2 IP),
Landon Stoppelmoor (2 IP) and
Dante Schmid (1 IP) out of the bullpen.
The Peacocks have a site reversal this weekend as they go back to the state of Missouri for a series with Drury in Springfield, Mo. Their games are scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. & 4 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.
