Peacock baseball faced the Vikings of Augustana in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at Robertson Woods Field and in an 18-0 decision. UIU recorded four hits, two from
Brock Zimmer and one from
Jared Hoodjer and
Bryce Hall. AUG tallied 19 hits and 18 RBI's.
The Vikings put up five runs by the conclusion of inning one after being walked four times and registering one hit. Agustana added another two runs in the second inning for an early 7-0 lead.
UIU had their first hit in the bottom of the second inning from Zimmer as he singled to left field. The Peacocks walked twice to load the bases with one out, but all three base runners were left stranded.
The visitors added six runs in the third inning behind five hits to stretch their lead to 13-0. They put up another run in the fourth, bringing them to 14-0.
Hoodjer started out the fourth with a single to right field, but was left stranded at first base.
The Peacocks held the Vikings to zero runs in the fifth inning, but allowed them to bring around another four in the sixth, giving them the 18-0 lead.
Bryce Hall singled to start off the top of the seventh, but was not able to advance any further on the base paths.
Mariano Gomez of Augustana picked up the win on the mound. He threw for five innings striking out 14 batters, while allowing three hits and zero runs.
Carson Dupuis took the loss on the mound for the Peacocks. He threw the first 2.1 innings, giving up seven hits and 12 runs, all of them earned.
Upper Iowa is set to face Rockhurst in a GLVC series this weekend with games on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. & 4 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.
