Upper Iowa men's basketball found themselves in a neck-and-neck contest with Quincy that came down to the final seconds. The Peacocks edged out the Hawks in an 85-81 decision, improving to 17-8 on the year and 12-5 in the GLVC.
UIU held an 82-81 lead with 45 seconds left, when a Peacock turnover while driving to the basket gave the Hawks the ball and an opportunity to have the last shot of the game. After
Nick Reid swatted a last-second Quincy layup,
Austin Hilmer pounced on a loose ball and drew a foul, sending him to the free throw line for two shots, where he went 1-2.
Prior to A. Hilmer's two free throw attempts, a technical foul from the QU sideline gave his brother
Jake Hilmer the opportunity for a pair at the charity stripe, where he connected on both attempts. The three free throws gave UIU the 85-81 advantage with 1.5 seconds left, sealing their victory.
J. Hilmer finished the game with 27 points, going 13-13 from the foul line. Reid contributed 21 points, eight rebounds and a game-high four blocks.
Noah King finished with 15 points and eight boards, while
Caleb Delzell added 13 points on 5-8 shooting, going 3-6 from long distance.
Kyle Hrncir hauled in seven rebounds and nabbed two steals.
The Peacocks trailed at the half 41-38 after closing the gap from an 11-point deficit (35-24).

The Peacocks netted 49.1% from the field and 38.9% beyond the arc. The Hawks shot 43.1% from the floor, 36% from three-point land and 90% from the charity stripe (9-10).
