Immediately following senior night festivities, senior
Jake Hilmer cemented his legacy with a performance the Dorman faithful will not soon forget, as his 36-point effort led Upper Iowa to an 83-72 victory over Illinois Springfield.
The win raised the Peacocks' conference record to 13-5. Upper Iowa's near-perfect record at home now stands at 11-1 on the year.
The Peacocks put some distance between the two teams halfway through the first stanza, as they built an 18-9 cushion. UIS clawed back and the game was even at 25 apiece when Hilmer outscored the visitors 8-2, pulling UIU ahead for good.
Hilmer exerted his offensive dominance early and often as he leaned, separated, faded and scored at will in the first half. His 24 points at the intermission helped build a 39-33 Upper Iowa advantage.
At the onset of the second half,
Nick Reid ignited the crowd with a steal and breakaway dunk. On the night, Reid became the 31
st UIU men's basketball player to join the 1,000-point club behind his 10-point performance.
The Prairie Stars made several runs in the second half, including cutting the Peacock lead to 76-71 with 2:52 remaining. However, Hilmer drilled a fall-away 3-pointer from the right wing a minute later, providing additional breathing room en route to the victory.
Upper Iowa outscored Illinois Springfield 30-9 from behind the arc and held a 17-15 advantage from the charity stripe.
The visitors from the Land of Lincoln were led by Jack Weber's 17 points.
The Peacocks final home game of the campaign also saw Upper Iowa play turnover-free basketball for the first 39 minutes of the contest.
Noah King chipped in 13 points while Kyle Hrcnir cleaned the glass to the tune of 10 total rebounds.
Senior
Christian Haffner saw action in his last home game as a Peacock.
Upper Iowa has one more week left of conference play, as they travel to the campus of Drury on Thursday and Southwest Baptist on Saturday for the last two games of the regular season.
