Upper Iowa men's basketball picked up the weekend sweep as they trumped Maryville in a 90-82 decision behind a 35-point performance from
Jake Hilmer. The Peacocks improved to 16-8 on the season and 11-5 in the GLVC, clinging to the second spot in the regular season conference standings.

Nick Reid eclipsed 1,000 points in his collegiate career Saturday evening between both point totals at Emporia State and Upper Iowa. Reid is now just 31 points shy of joining Upper Iowa's 1,000-point club.Â

Tonight marked only the second time this season where the Peacocks trailed at halftime but came out on top by the end of the contest. Neither team led by more than five points in the opening 20 minutes, but it was the Saints who held a 41-38 advantage heading into the locker rooms at the intermission.Â

Hilmer came out with a vengeance in the second period as he netted three back-to-back jumpers to give Upper Iowa the 44-41 lead. The Saints retaliated and strung together five straight points to pull ahead by two with just over 15 minutes remaining.Â

The Peacocks trailed 74-69 with five minutes to play, but a Hilmer step-through jumper and three-point dagger from
Nick Reid knotted the game up and propelled Upper Iowa to go on an 11-2 run in the next four minutes, seven of them from the clutches of Hilmer.Â

The Saints fell behind 87-78 with under a minute to go and tested the home team at the charity stripe. The Peacocks converted five free throws down the stretch while allowing six points from Maryville, grabbing the eight-point win.

Upper Iowa shot 47% from both the field and long distance, while Maryville converted 52% from the floor and 42% beyond the arc.Â

Both teams took care of the ball as the Saints turned the ball over seven times and the Peacocks only committed three.Â

UIU netted 81% (18-22) from the line and MU shot 60% (6-10).

Caleb Delzell compiled a double-double as he put up 19 points on 8-12 from the field and hauled in 11 rebounds while adding two blocks. Reid contributed 16 points with two blocks and six rebounds.
Noah King dished out a team-high four assists while adding seven rebounds and 11 points.Â

Upper Iowa is back at home next weekend for the final time this season as they battle Quincy on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. and Illinois Springfield on Saturday at 3 p.m.
