The Upper Iowa University Athletics Department hosted the third Peacock Power 24-Hour Challenge on Thursday, Nov. 14, and the alumni, family, and friends of Peacock Athletics stepped up and delivered a third-straight record amount.
Â
Over 640 donations generated $143,818 toward the 16 Peacock sport programs, strength and conditioning, athletic training, and student-athlete development. The 2024 total surpassed last year's challenge total by over $5,000.
Â
"We continue to be amazed and humbled by the generosity of our alumni, families, and supporters," said Rick Hartzell, UIU Vice President for Athletics. "We are very appreciative of the $30,000 gift from Roger and Alice Mangan toward our strength and conditioning program. Their gift will transform the training resources for all 400+ student-athletes. Several other Peacock alumni made the day a huge success including Keela Johnson, Marshall Richards, Nate and Ben Curran, Mike Prochaska, Pam Whitmore and Fred Koch. We are grateful to these alumni leaders and blessed by their support to the Peacock athletics department."
Â
The gifts generated through the third Peacock Power 24-Hour Challenge will directly impact Peacock student-athletes by providing them with the resources needed to have a first-class experience at Upper Iowa. The donors that gave, no matter the amount, have provided the means for coaches and staff to help our student-athletes reach their full potential in the classroom, on the playing field and in the community.
Â
"Peacock Nation has once again come through with tremendous generosity during our third Peacock Power 24-Hour Challenge, Howie Thompson, Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations. "Thank you to all of our donors that stepped up and generously gave 644 gifts to our programs. In total, Peacock Nation helped us raise $143,818, once again shattering our final goal of $125,000. The support given to the Peacock sports, as well as strength and conditioning, athletic training, and student-athlete development, is a testament to the amount of love that our alumni, family and friends have for Upper Iowa and the amount of faith they have in how we do business in the Athletics department. The student-athlete experience is our number one priority and underscores our three core values of grit, pride and growth."
Â
The Peacock softball program won the team total challenge with $21,361, while football ($18,344), baseball ($17,616), men's wrestling ($11,069) and men's basketball ($9,605) rounded out the top five in the challenge in total dollars raised. UIU men's golf won the challenge for dollars raised per student-athlete with a total of $9,436 and a per student-athlete average of $911.
Â
