Upper Iowa volleyball took on No. 19 Missouri-St. Louis and fell in a 3-0 decision by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-22. UMSL improved to 17-5 (6-3 GLVC), and the Peacocks shifted to 10-13 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
Zoe Semelroth led the squad in kills with seven, followed by
Martha Pace (.400) and
Kylie Gustafson (.600) with six.
Nicole Pozorski dished out 23 assists, while
McKenna Diermeier collected ten digs and
Morgan Block recorded seven.
Upper Iowa held an early 6-3 lead in set one but allowed UMSL to rattle off an 8-1 run, which included three aces, giving them an 11-7 advantage. The Peacocks crept within one (15-14) but allowed four unanswered points from the home team, giving them a 19-14 lead. UIU trailed 20-17 towards the end of the set, but the Tritons rallied off five straight points to take the first frame.
UMSL carried their momentum straight into the second set as they got off to a 7-0 start behind six kills and one ace.
Emily Kono snagged a kill to break the streak before the home team strung together three more points to lead 10-1. The Tritons finished the set on a 6-1 for the dominant victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Upper Iowa retaliated early in set three as they held a 12-9 lead. Later in the set, the score was tied at 21 apiece, but UMSL took advantage of two Peacock attack errors and mustered a kill for the 24-21 advantage. UIU got the ball back on an UMSL service error, but the Tritons capped off the set with a kill to take the game.
The Peacocks have their final home action next weekend as they host Lewis on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. and Indianapolis on Saturday at 3 p.m. for senior day.
