Upper Iowa volleyball vied with Illinois Springfield in their second match of the weekend inside Dorman Gymnasium, falling in four sets. The Prairie Stars started off on a hot streak as they trumped the Peacocks 25-14. UIU responded in set two with a 25-18 triumph but fell by scores of 25-18 and 26-19 in the fourth and fifth set.
The duo of
Marissa Becker and
Zoe Semelroth played a large role at the net, as Semelroth recorded 15 kills and Becker had 10, while each of them tallied three blocks.
Jaeden Cook collected three aces,
Nicole Pozorski dished out a team-high 38 assists and
McKenna Diermeier mustered 20 digs.
UIS held a 13-9 lead in set one and took advantage of UIU's attempts at the net that went out of bounds. The home squad hit -.057 in set one while the visitors recorded a .273 with a game-high 14 kills.
Upper Iowa hit their best of the afternoon as a unit in set two with a .345, while Illinois Springfield recorded their lowest on the day at .176. The Peacocks were up early with a 12-6 lead, and maintained a comfortable distance throughout the set. The Peacocks went on a 6-1 burst to put them up 24-15. The Prairie Stars scored three straight, but a kill from sophomore
Kailey Porter sealed the second set.
The Peacocks started ahead in set three with a 4-0 margin, but the guests refused to back down. UIS went on a massive 11-1 run mid-set to grab a 21-14 lead and switch the momentum to their favor.
Set four was tied up late at 19 apiece, but the Prairie Stars rattled off six unanswered points to finish the frame and take the game.
The Peacocks are back in action next weekend as they head to Missouri for a pair of matches. They challenge Southwest Baptist on Friday at 6 p.m. and Drury on Saturday at 3 p.m.
