Upper Iowa volleyball competed in their first contest of the weekend against Southwest Baptist and fell in a 3-1 decision. They grabbed the first set 25-17 but could not keep their momentum and fell in the following three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-18. 
 
The Peacocks fell to 1-3 in the league and 6-9 overall, while the Bearcats picked up their first GLVC win of the season and improved to 1-4 in the conference and 9-11 overall. 
 
Zoe Semelroth tallied a .436 hitting percentage and paced the team with 20 kills for the evening, Nicole Pozorski dished out 39 assists and McKenna Diermeier collected 22 digs. 
 
UIU started with a 9-2 lead in set one, and despite the Bulldogs pulling within one (12-11), the Peacocks maintained their distance and grabbed set one with a comfortable lead. 
 
The Bearcats compiled several strong runs in set two, giving them the lead and enough distance until their 25-19 victory to tie up the game at one set apiece. 
 
Southwest Baptist did not look back as they won the following two sets by at least six points or more. Despite a 6-1 UIU run at the tail end of set three to trail 21-19, SBU responded with four straight points to seal set three.
 
Upper Iowa held a 13-10 lead in set four but allowed Southwest Baptist to string together a 9-1 run for the 18-14 lead, which guided them to win set four and their first conference win of the season. 
 
The Peacocks are back in action tomorrow against Drury at 3 p.m.
