Volleyball to Host Quincy, Illinois Springfield in GLVC Affairs

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK VOLLEYBALL
Upper Iowa volleyball (6-6, 1-0 GLVC) is back in Fayette this weekend as they welcome two conference teams to Prochaska Court. The SAAC game of the year and first contest of the weekend versus Quincy will be on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a match up with Illinois Springfield on Saturday at 1 p.m.

REVIEW OF THE LAST ACTION
Upper Iowa volleyball opened conference play on Saturday against Truman State and defended their house, defeating the visitors in five sets. 
 
Zoe Semelroth recorded 19 kills and put up six blocks, followed by Alexis Moses with five. Nicole Pozorski rattled off four aces and handed out 44 assists, while McKenna Diermeier held down the back line and collected 12 digs, trailed by Maria Winter with 11. 
 
LEAD BY EXAMPLE
Zoe Semelroth has proven herself as one of the most elite hitters in the conference in comparison to her fellow competitors. She ranks first in the league in hitting percentage (.429) which places her 10th in the nation for Division II. Hannah Copeland (UMSL) trails her in second at .390. The Tripoli, Iowa native is second in the GLVC and 13th in the country in kills per set with 4.35, totaling 200 on the year so far. 
 
LEAGUE MEMBERS IN THE AVCA RANKINGS
Two GLVC programs appeared in the AVCA's latest top 25 rankings. Missouri-St. Louis ranks the highest in 11th with a 10-2 record, falling from a fifth-place spot the week prior. Quincy is tied with Nova Southeastern in 24th , holding a 13-1 record and making an appearance in the rankings after not having a presence in the poll last week. Rokchurst is not in the top 25, but is listed alongside other schools receiving votes with 11.
 
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Quincy heads into the weekend with a 13-1 (2-0 GLVC) record, with their only loss being to Nova Southeastern (3-1) in the Lee University Tournament. In conference play, the Hawks have trumped Maryville 3-0 and Missouri S&T 3-1. 
 
They lead the GLVC in kills per set with 14.31 (10th NCAA DII), service aces with 98 and win-loss percentage at .929 (8th in NCAA DII). Quincy ranks second in the league in assists per set (13.25) and total team kills with 744 (12th in NCAA DII).
 
SCOUTING THE PRAIRIE STARS
Illinois Springfield is 10-4 on the year and 2-1 in conference play. They picked up a split lat weekend, defeating Missouri S&T 3-2 and falling to Maryville 3-2. 
 
The Prairie Stars are third in the league in service aces with 94 (1.77 per set), fourth in hitting percentage with .223 and sixth in kills with 12.57 per set. 
 
UP NEXT
The Peacocks head to Missouri next weekend as they challenge Southwest Baptist on Friday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. and Drury on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m.
