FAYETTE, Iowa - UIU volleyball (4-6, 1-1 GLVC) has its home-opening games this weekend against Lewis (Ill.) (8-5, 2-0 GLVC) and No. 21 Indianapolis (12-1, 2-0 GLVC) this weekend. The Peacocks are scheduled to face the Flyers on Friday, Sept. 25, at 6 p.m. UIU will face the ranked Greyhounds on Saturday. Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. in Dorman Gymnasium after a slight time change.

LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks went 1-1 to start GLVC play this past weekend, falling in five sets to Maryville (Mo.) (7-5, 2-0 GLVC), and picking up a three-set win against Missouri S&T (7-6, 0-2 GLVC). Junior setter Grace Fruzen hit a major milestone, surpassing 1,000 career assists in the second set against S&T.

Fruzen became the ninth player in program history to reach the 1,000-assist milestone. She totaled 71 assists (8.88/set) on the weekend with 36 assists against Missouri S&T. In the third set against the Miners, she tallied 17 assists in the third set with a 50% set/assist percentage.

Morgan Block totaled a team-high 46 digs (5.75/set) with a 96.6% receiving percentage. She totaled 25 digs against Maryville and has had 20 or more digs in seven of her nine appearances this season. 

The Peacocks had four attackers with 17 or more kills, led by freshman Natalie Bystol with 22 (2.75/set). She also added 13 digs. Erica Conger had 21 kills, including 10 in her hometown area against Maryville. Marissa Becker and Kailey Porter each totaled 17 kills.

STATISTICS SUMMARY
Porter leads the team with 91 kills (2.68/set) and a team-best .363 attack percentage in the middle. The senior ranks fourth in hitting percentage in the GLVC this season. Becker leads the team in kills per set at 2.81 (87 total). Bystol has recorded 89 kills (2.70/set) this season.

Fruzen has totaled 297 assists (8.25/set) this season. She ranks fifth in the GLVC in assists per set. She's also into the triple digits in digs with 105 (2.92/set) for the second-most on the team. Fruzen is tied with Addy Vaughn for the team lead in service aces at 13.

Block leads the GLVC in digs per set, averaging 5.54. That also ranks seventh in the nation. She has totaled 205 digs in 37 sets played this season. She's third on the team in assists with 48 and has added eight service aces. 

The Peacocks have had a considerable margin as a team in digs this season. UIU allows opponents 14.17 digs per set, which ranks as the second-best in the GLVC. The team averages 15.78 digs per set, ranking fifth in the conference. 

AROUND THE GLVC
UIndy sits atop the conference with a 12-1 overall record, and is ranked No. 21 in this week's AVCA Coaches' Poll. Missouri-St. Louis (7-5, 2-0 GLVC) is the only other team from the conference receiving votes with 18. 

Lewis and Maryville are the other two teams with two wins in GLVC play so far. Rockhurst (Mo.) (7-4, 1-0 GLVC) has won a league-high six straight matches and picked up their first conference win against William Jewell (Mo.) (1-11, 0-1 GLVC) this past weekend. Drury (Mo.) (10-3, 1-1 GLVC) has double-digit wins this season, but fell in four sets this past weekend to UMSL.

Makenna Cox of Illinois Springfield (3-9, 0-2 GLVC) leads the league in kills per set, averaging 3.98. Drury's Jacy Bray is averaging 9.93 assists per set, and Tori Creason of Truman State (Mo.) (5-7, 1-1 GLVC), along with Marly Burbach of UMSL, are tied for second with 9.86 assists per set. Maryville's Mallory Sell is behind Block in digs per set, averaging 5.54. 

UMSL's Alayna Santel was named the AVCA Division II National Player of the Week on Tuesday. It's the second time in her career that she's received the accolade. She averaged 5.57 kills per set this last weekend while hitting .507 and had a career-high 28 kills in the team's win over Drury. 

ABOUT THE FLYERS
Lewis picked up four set wins over Quincy (9-5, 0-2 GLVC) and Illinois Springfield this past weekend. The Flyers have played four ranked teams this season, winning one of the matches against preseason No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.). 

They have two attackers with over 130 kills this season in senior Sarah Newberry and junior Marin Grossman. Newberry leads the team with a .338 attack percentage. Senior Lauren Buxton has also added 107 kills this season. 

Freshman Grace Malek is the top setter for the Flyers with 264 assists (5.39/set). Senior Rachel Kaczorowski is adding 181 assists (4.53/set). On defense, senior libero Elena Gubera has totaled 181 digs (3.69/set) and senior Kynzie Lilly has tallied 136 digs (2.96/set). 

Lewis ranks third in the conference with 91 total service aces (1.86/set). Lilly leads the team with 25 service aces, while Malek, Gubera, Newberry, Kaczorowski and Buxton are all in double digits. 

Head coach Lorelee Smith is in her 20th season at Lewis, leading the team to eight conference tournament championships during her tenure. She has a 510-147 record entering this weekend with the Flyers. 

ABOUT THE GREYHOUNDS
The Greyhounds started 10-0 this season before losing their final nonconference game in three sets to No. 12 Lynn (Fla.). The Greyhounds rebounded with a five-set win over Illinois Springfield and a three-set win over Quincy this past weekend. 

Junior outside hitter Maddie Lynch leads the Greyhounds with 149 kills (3.82/set). She is third in the GLVC in kills per set. Senior middle Allison Jansen is adding 112 kills (2.73/set), and senior outside Makenzie Pflederer is adding 107 kills (2.55/set). 

Freshman setter Amaree Haralson is the team's leading assister with 290 (6.92/set). Sophomore Carly Fonda adds 182 assists (4.79/set). Senior Macy Bruton leads the Greyhounds in digs with 224 (5.33/set), ranking third in the GLVC. 

As a team, UIndy leads the league in points per set (17.64/set), kills (14.2/set), hitting percentage (.280) and assists (13.27/set). They are tied with Drury and Lewis for allowing the fewest service aces per set at 1.18. 

Haley Case is in her second season with the Greyhounds. She led the program to a 22-12 record last season with an appearance in the Division II Midwest Regional Finals.
