Upper Iowa improved to 4-3-2 in GLVC play as they defeated the Lincoln 2-1 in their first ever meeting with the Blue Tigers.
Freshman
Jordan Goldstein fired the first shot on target of the game in the 9
th minute, and the Blue Tigers responded a minute later with a shot on goal that was saved by junior
Isabelle Wagner. The Peacocks were then able to get past the Lincoln defense, as freshman
Mikalyn Hidde scored a goal for the second game in a row, to put the Peacocks in the lead at the 22-minute mark. Senior
Darci Faichnie and freshman
Jordan Goldstein assisted on the play, with Goldstein recording her team-leading sixth assist on the season.
Hidde and sophomore
Haylee Allen both added shots on target in the 24
th and 32
nd minutes, which were saved by Lincoln keeper Kanon Dehama. Junior
Nevaeh James scored UIU's second goal in the 36
th minute to propel the Peacocks into a 2-0 lead on assists from sophomores
Meghan Zwicker and
Jessica Ancheta.
Wagner opened the second half with a save in the bottom left corner of the goal and she added another save in the 65
th minute. Freshman
Myriah Roybal recorded UIU's first shot on target in the second half, with Zwicker and freshman
Samantha Most adding shots on goal in the 69
th and 70
th minutes. Wagner recorded two more deflections in the 81
st minute which were both saved in the right corner of the goal to give her five saves on the day. The Blue Tigers were able to score in the 85
th minute, but it was too little too late as the Peacocks were able to secure a 2-1 victory.
The Peacocks look to make it three wins in a row as they travel to Rolla, Mo. to take on Missouri S&T on Sunday, Oct. 20 at noon.
