Peacocks Best the Blue Tigers; Pick Up Second Win in a Row

Upper Iowa improved to 4-3-2 in GLVC play as they defeated the Lincoln 2-1 in their first ever meeting with the Blue Tigers.

Freshman Jordan Goldstein fired the first shot on target of the game in the 9th minute, and the Blue Tigers responded a minute later with a shot on goal that was saved by junior Isabelle Wagner. The Peacocks were then able to get past the Lincoln defense, as freshman Mikalyn Hidde scored a goal for the second game in a row, to put the Peacocks in the lead at the 22-minute mark. Senior Darci Faichnie and freshman Jordan Goldstein assisted on the play, with Goldstein recording her team-leading sixth assist on the season.

Hidde and sophomore Haylee Allen both added shots on target in the 24th and 32nd minutes, which were saved by Lincoln keeper Kanon Dehama. Junior Nevaeh James scored UIU's second goal in the 36th minute to propel the Peacocks into a 2-0 lead on assists from sophomores Meghan Zwicker and Jessica Ancheta.

Wagner opened the second half with a save in the bottom left corner of the goal and she added another save in the 65th minute. Freshman Myriah Roybal recorded UIU's first shot on target in the second half, with Zwicker and freshman Samantha Most adding shots on goal in the 69th and 70th minutes. Wagner recorded two more deflections in the 81st minute which were both saved in the right corner of the goal to give her five saves on the day. The Blue Tigers were able to score in the 85th minute, but it was too little too late as the Peacocks were able to secure a 2-1 victory.

The Peacocks look to make it three wins in a row as they travel to Rolla, Mo. to take on Missouri S&T on Sunday, Oct. 20 at noon.
