Peacocks Seek Consecutive Victories Against Lincoln, S&T

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK MEN'S SOCCER… The Peacocks look to build off their victory against Southwest Baptist as they take on Lincoln on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Missouri S&T on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2:30 p.m.

WEEKLY REWIND… The Peacocks are coming off a 2-0 victory over Southwest Baptist, where they overcame a 10 v. 11 situation with two second half goals. Junior Alejandro Sanchez led the way for UIU, scoring the first goal in the 49th minute before adding his third assist of the season on a corner kick in the 65th. Fifth year Daigo Adachi assisted on the opening goal for his third assist on the year as well, joining junior Emir Basar in the three-assists club. Following a nine-save performance this past weekend against William Jewell, junior JJ Gonzalez-Hayes secured the shutout with two second half saves.
 
STAR IN THE MAKING… Freshman Julian Mesen scored on a header in the 65th minute to ice the Peacocks victory over SBU. He has attempted three shots on target this season, which have all resulted in a team-leading three goals in only 250 minutes of action. Mesen has scored a GLVC-leading one goal every 83.33 minutes while also being tied for the eighth most goals scored in the conference.
 
LINCOLN'S LINEUP… The Blue Tigers have posted a 4-4-2 record, going 3-4-1 in the GLVC. Their season has been highlighted by consecutive wins over Drury and Southwest Baptist by scores of 7-0 and 5-0. Freshman Shandee Brooks and junior Kevon Maitland are tied for fifth in the GLVC with four goals this season, making Lincoln the only team in the conference where multiple players have scored four times. Freshman Christopher Hall has added three goals, while putting together a one-goal, one-assist performance against Drury. Sophomore Jonas Mueller leads the team with three assists as he recorded an assist three games in a row to close out September. Freshman Antwone Gooden has started in the net over the past two games, posting a 1-1 record while allowing two goals with eight saves.

MISSOURI S&T'S MATCHUPS… The Miners have recorded a 6-4-2 overall record with a 3-3-2 conference mark. Sophomore Cavitt Bruhn has recorded a 77.6% save percentage which ranks sixth in the conference while recording 38 saves. He has allowed less than one goal per game and has recorded a season-high eight saves twice on the year. Sophomore Mike Banasik leads the team with three goals, which included a two-goal game against Illinois Springfield. Junior Mustafa Hasan recorded goals in consecutive games while also adding an assist against Maryville. Freshman Luke Giesing leads the team with three assists and he scored his first collegiate goal in a 1-0 victory over Lincoln.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS… The Peacocks will head back to Harms-Eischeid Stadium for their final two home games of the season. UIU takes on Maryville on Friday, Oct. 25 in their Breast Cancer Awareness game and Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday, Oct. 27 for Senior Day. Both games will start at 2:30 p.m.
