THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S BASKETBALL… Upper Iowa is heading back to Illinois for consecutive GLVC road games. The Peacocks will look to get back to their winning ways as their four-game win streak came to an end this past weekend against Lewis who have a perfect 7-0 record in GLVC play. Illinois-Springfield hosts the Peacocks on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. and UIU will follow that up with a matchup at Quincy on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.

EARLY-SEASON STARS… The Peacocks have achieved a 6-4 record with a 3-3 GLVC mark, which puts them at 8th place in the conference. Junior
Mia Huberty is coming off her best week of the season as she put up a near triple double against McKendree (16 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists) and scored a very efficient 27 points on 11-15 shooting against Lewis. Huberty has averaged 15.8 points per game on 46.2% shooting and she leads all Peacocks with 34 assists on the year. Fifth-year
Brooke Evenson has been a defensive dynamo all season as she has recorded at least one block in seven straight games while also averaging 2.0 steals per game over UIU's five previous matches. She's been just as great on the offensive end, averaging 12.9 points per game on 45.1% shooting while also leading all Peacocks with 7.6 rebounds per game. Fifth-year
Katie Tornstrom scored 22 points in UIU's most recent victory against McKendree, surpassing the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season. She leads all Peacocks with 16.3 points per game on 38.6% shooting from beyond the arc and has recorded a team-high 17 steals. Senior
Kayla Bohr is coming off one of her best games of the season as she scored nine points on 4-7 shooting and recorded a game-high seven rebounds for the Peacocks against Lewis. She has averaged 6.7 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting 47.6% from the floor.
SEASON HIGHS…
PREVIEW OF THE PRAIRIE STARS… Illinois Springfield has started the season 7-7 (5-3 GLVC) and are coming off back-to-back victories against Drury and William Jewell. Junior Jessenia Lawson leads the Prairie Stars in nearly every major statistical category as she's averaging team-highs in points per game (16.8), rebounds per game (7.3), assists per game (3.3) and steals per game (2.6). Lawson put together her best performance of the season this past weekend as she scored 28 points and hauled in 14 rebounds against Drury. Senior Liz Uhl has averaged 11.9 points on 41.1% shooting from the floor and a very efficient 46-51 (90.2%) shooting from the free throw line. She has averaged 4.4 rebounds per game and has added 20 steals on the year. Fifth-year Michaela Gibbons rounds out UIS' double-digit scorers, averaging 10.4 points per game. She has been the best shooter in the Prairie Stars' starting-five, making 27 three-pointers on 33.8% shooting from beyond the arc.
QUARREL WITH QUINCY … The Hawks have started the year with a 4-10 mark (3-5 GLVC) and are currently on a three-game losing streak. Junior Cymirah Williams has averaged team-highs with 12.3 points per game on 44.7% shooting, 8.6 rebounds per game and 27 steals. She has scored in double-figures for nine consecutive games which includes a season-high 19-point performance against Northern Michigan. Sophomore Acheampomaa Danso has averaged 9.4 points per game on phenomenal shooting splits, making 56.3% of her shots. She has averaged 8.2 rebounds per game and has blocked nearly three-times the number of shots as anyone else on her team with 23. Junior Janiece Dawson is averaging 9.5 points on 33.9% shooting and 5.1 rebounds per game.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS… The Peacocks return to Fayette for back-to-back home conference games for the first time this season. Upper Iowa takes on Drury on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m. before facing Southwest Baptist on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.
