Upper Iowa men's basketball was victorious on their home court against Drury University in an 86-71 decision, climbing into second place in the GLVC standings with a 5-2 conference mark and an overall record of 10-5. The Panthers fell to 10-6 (3-5 GLVC) on the season.
The Peacocks had four in double figures this evening, led by
Jake Hilmer with 23, followed by
Noah King with 16,
Kyle Hrncir with 15 and
Nick Reid with ten.
The game changer came in the last 13 minutes of the contest.
Austin Hilmer came off the bench and knocked down two back-to-back three pointers to give Upper Iowa an extra push. His six-point soiree kick-started a Peacock 7-0 run that gave the home team the 58-50 advantage with under 10 minutes remaining.
Upper Iowa held a 77-70 lead with one minute until the final buzzer sounded, but rallied off a 9-1 run to end the game and claim a 15-point victory.
After starting the contest down 5-2, Upper Iowa put together an 11-3 scoring burst to get in a groove behind the jump shots of Hilmer and King.
The Peacocks held an eight-point lead in the first half, but ended up only leading by one (35-34) at the conclusion of the first period.
Upper Iowa netted 19 of 25 from the charity stripe, while the Panthers went 9 of 14.
UIU shot 41.2% from the floor and 23.1% from beyond the arc, while the visitors connected on 47% of their shots from the field and 27.8% from long distance.
The Peacocks take on Southwest Baptist for the first time in program history on Saturday at 3 p.m. right here in Fayette.
