The GLVC/NSIC crossover event has concluded with Upper Iowa women's soccer's 2-0 loss against Winona State.
The Peacocks mixed up their starting lineup from Friday's match, as a pair of freshmen in defender
Amanda Pisciotta and forward
Haylie Hutchinson both made their first collegiate starts of their career. Winona State came out very aggressive to start the game and they were awarded a penalty kick ten minutes in following a slide-tackle foul from junior defender
Katrina Kazluski. Junior midfielder Abigail Williams found the back of the net on Winona State's penalty kick.
The Peacocks had a few chances to answer back, and they gained a lot of momentum with ten minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman defender
Maile Kapualeinani Kehano launched a shot from way outside the box towards the top left corner of the goal in the 38
th minute but Winona State junior goalkeeper Alyson Jumper made a phenomenal save, tipping the ball out of bounds for a corner kick. The Peacocks lobbed a perfectly placed corner kick towards sophomore midfielder
Nevaeh James, who's header on goal was saved once again. Junior midfielder
Chloe Jarosz attempted a shot on the top right corner of the goal right before the second half, which was saved once again.
Winona State came out very aggressive to start the half once again, and sophomore forward Sarah Strating put the Warriors up 2-0 a minute into the half. The Peacocks were unable to answer with a goal of their own and their best look came from sophomore forward Rachel Benavides during the final minute of the game. The standout for the Peacocks today was sophomore goalkeeper
Isabelle Wagner. Wagner played a great game as she recorded ten saves, with seven coming in the second half. This ten save performance matches her career high from last season.
The Peacocks will look to bounce back on the road against non-conference opponent Bemidji State on Friday, Sep. 8 at 7pm.
