Upper Iowa has fallen to powerhouse Drury University by a score of 5-1.
The Peacocks made another slight change to their usual roster as junior defender
Amy Gonzalez made her first start of the season after playing a season high 35 minutes against Quincy University. Drury took advantage of their first corner kick of the game, scoring just a minute into the match. Senior defender Kourtney Tucker lobbed a pass from the corner right in front of the Peacocks net that was headed in by senior defender Andrea Camargo for her fourth goal of the season. Freshman defender
Taylor Young nearly answered in the eighth minute but her shot went wide left. Sophomore goalkeeper
Isabelle Wagner made her first save of the game in the 12
th minute, on a shot that went right down the middle. She would not be so lucky on Drury's next attempt as senior forward Elsa Gonzalez scored in the 18
th minute. Drury added their third goal of the game in the 28
th minute on a cross from the right side of the field by junior forward Jenna Peterson that was kicked in by freshman forward Danielle Buker. The exact same two players would be involved in Drury's 4
th goal in the 43
rd minute, this time with Peterson scoring the goal and Buker getting the assist.
Junior goalkeeper
Trinity Engelhardt started the second half for the Peacocks, after appearing in 17 minutes in the previous match. UIU came out very aggressive to start the second half with sophomore forward
Emma Johnston attempting the Peacocks first shot on goal, which was saved less than a minute into the second half. Drury answered with their fifth goal of the game in the 62
nd minute that was assisted by Buker once again and scored by senior midfielder Ines Villanueva Casal. A poor clearance by Drury was intercepted by freshman midfielder
Mariangela Meneses. She passed to freshman midfielder
Giovanna Alexa Garcia who shot the ball into the top corner of the goal, scoring her first goal of the season. Engelhardt would later record her first save of the game in the 70
th minute, which was her second of the year. Meneses nearly scored the Peacocks second goal of the game, but her shot hit the top of the post after making it past Drury's goalie. Engelhardt picked up UIU's first red card of the season in the 82
nd minute, after diving on the ball from outside of the box. Drury would go on to win the game by a score of 5-1.
Upper Iowa will stay in the state of Missouri as they face 2-6-1 Southwest Baptist. The game will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 12 p.m.
