Volleyball Defeats Truman State and Takes First Conference Win

Upper Iowa volleyball entertained a back-and-forth battle with Truman State in the team's first GLVC matchup, but ended up scraping out the 3-2 victory for their first conference win of the season. The win brought them to 5-6 (1-0 GLVC) on the year, while the Bulldogs dropped to 7-6 (0-1 GLVC).

The Peacocks dropped the first set 25-17 after allowing TSU an 8-0 run to open the set. They struggled to match the offense of the Bulldogs and never came within five points of their opponent.

Upper Iowa was victorious in the second set in a score of 25-20. The Peacocks had three attack errors in a row halfway through the set in the midst of a 10-1 run in favor of the Bulldogs. However, UIU rallied off five-straight points, two of them fueled by a Maria Winter kill. Down 14-17, Upper Iowa continued to chip away at the deficit until going on their own 6-1 slide to end the match.

The Peacocks struggled in the third set, allowing Truman State another 7-0 start. They were unable to ignite offensive momentum and suffered a 25-14 loss.

The fourth set was anyone's to take until Upper Iowa executed another strong finish at the end after going on a 6-1 to seal the deal (25-22), this time energized by kills from Nicole Posorski and Emily Kono

The fifth set belonged to the Peacocks in a 15-7 end result. Upper Iowa registered a .364 hitting percentage with nine kills and only one error.

Zoe Semelroth registered 16 kills (.387) in the victory, followed by Maria Winter with 12. Other team notables include Kylee Oldenburger with three aces, Pozorski with 42 assists and Kaci Beesecker with 21 digs.

Up next, the Peacocks play two additional road matches next weekend Sep. 29-30 against Illinois Springfield on Friday at 6 p.m. and Quincy University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
