Upper Iowa's unbeaten streak has come to an end following their 0-1 loss to the Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars.
The Peacocks nearly scored their fastest opening goal of the season as sophomore forward
Emma Johnston attempted a shot on goal just 43 minutes into the match which was saved by junior goalkeeper Allison Mirimanian. Illinois-Springfield answered almost immediately, scoring the first and only goal of the game in the 4
th minute. Senior midfielder Abby Dellamorte scored her second goal of the season on an assist from senior forwards Madison Grandys and Sierra Cenek. The Prairie Stars would get one more shot on goal during the first of the half which resulted in a team save by the Peacocks.
UIU made a change at goalie to start the second half with sophomore
Jamie Kerkvliet getting her first playing time of the season. She made an immediate impression making a diving save in the 53
rd minute denying a great chance for Illinois-Springfield to go up 2-0. Prior to the save, sophomore midfielder
Nevaeh James had a shot on goal in the two minutes into the half which would have tied the game if it wasn't for a great save. It would be a very quiet remainder of the half as there would only be one more shot on goal which was once again saved by Kerkvliet. Both James and junior defender
Katrina Kazluski played all 90 minutes for the 4
th time this season with junior defender
Chloe Jarosz playing all 90 minutes for the 3
rd time.
Upper Iowa will look to start a new unbeaten streak as they host Quincy University this Sunday, Sep. 24 at 12 p.m.
