The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced Monday that 3,187 student-athletes have garnered Academic All-GLVC distinction for the 2022-23 season. The Academic All-GLVC honor is bestowed upon student-athletes who meet a cumulative GPA of 3.30 over two semesters of an academic year at their institution.
Seven members of the UIU women's bowling team earned a place among the honorees. The group of Peacocks include
Aubrey Kiddle,
Michaela Morgan,
Joanna Olstad,
Samantha Percha,
Natalie Prohaska,
Dana Murata and
Alex Dombrowski. Murata earned a place on the Academic All-GLVC team for the second time, while Dombroski notched her third GLVC all-academic accolade.
Prior to the conference tournament at the end of the season, the GLVC released their picks for other academic and athletic all-conference awards. Murata was one of seven players recognized as a GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Individual Award Honoree. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
The GLVC has also identified 536 student-athletes who have earned the GLVC Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar Award, announced on Wednesday. Murata earned this award for the second time in her career. The award is presented annually to student-athletes competing in GLVC-sponsored sports who achieve a 4.0 grade point average during the course of the academic year. The total number of honorees includes the 13 full-time GLVC members, as well as eligible associate league members
Aubrey Kiddle led the squad this season with 185.6 pins per contest, posting a season-high of 227 pins at the Bearcat Open. She earned herself a spot on the All-Tournament team at the Hawk Classic.
The Peacocks set multiple program records this season while on the lanes. They finished in second place at the Hawk Classic with a 9-2 overall mark, their highest finish and most wins at an event in program history. Earlier this year, UIU hosted and finished third overall at the Peacock Classic, which included a new program record for pins in a single match when the team knocked over 1,079 pins in their win over Newman. Upper Iowa concluded the season with a 39-48 overall record.
