Upper Iowa softball started their road stretch in Sioux Falls, S.D against Augustana University and fell in both games with scores of 12-3 and 16-0. The Vikings improved to 28-11 overall and 15-3 in the NSIC, while the Peacocks dropped to 14-21 on the season and 6-11 in conference.
UIU struggled on the offensive end as they registered just five hits in the first game and only one in the second. In game one, the Vikings had scored ten runs by the third inning before the Peacocks made it on the scoreboard in the bottom half. Upper Iowa registered three of their five hits in the third inning. To start things off,
Laila Pelds bombed a homerun over the left field fence to score two runs after Sam Jessie was placed on base by a walk. VanMilligan was up next at the plate. She smacked a double to center field with two outs and was brought around on by the next batter,
Kylie Doty, after she singled to left field.
The Peacocks were down 10-3 going into the fourth inning. The Vikings brought in an additional two runs, as the game ended in the fifth inning with a final score of 12-3.
Pelds and Doty led the team with two hits each and VanMilligan tallied one.
Rylee McGonigle started the game in the circle and lasted three innings, allowing seven hits and ten runs.
Abby Breuer threw two innings of relief, allowing two hits and two runs.
Ari Charles had the only hit of game two for the Peacocks. Charles smacked a ball to center field in the first inning, but it did not yield any runs. The Vikings tallied 15 hits in game two and brought in 16 runs.
Delaney Vetter started things off on the mound, but lasted only one and one-third innings, allowing two hits and four runs.
Abby Buckman came in to relieve her for three innings, allowing ten hits and eleven runs. Breuer closed things out with 0.2 innings pitched, allowing three hits and one run.
Upper Iowa's next competitor is the University of Mary in Bismarck, N. D. on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. UIU stays in North Dakota for the weekend as they turn around on Sunday and go head-to-head versus Minot State with games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
