The Peacocks continued their road stretch in Minnesota as they took on Duluth in a double header and fell in both games after the fifth inning, with final scores of 9-0 and 10-4. Upper Iowa is now 14-19 on the season with a 6-9 mark in conference, while the Bulldogs improve to 29-8 on the year and 14-3 in the NSIC.
Upper Iowa struggled to get anything going at the plate in game one as they registered only two hits and gathered zero runs.
Ari Charles and
Taylor Sedam each recorded one hit in the first matchup. Minnesota Duluth tallied nine runs on seven hits.Â
The Peacocks had runners in scoring position on second and third in the top of the second inning, but were unable to convert any runs. The Bulldogs scored six of their nine runs in the third inning.
Rylee McGonigle started things off in the circle, allowing nine runs on seven hits.
Delaney Vetter threw one inning of relief out of the bullpen.Â
UIU was able to get a little bit more offensive momentum in game two, but not enough to keep up with UMD. The Peacocks registered six hits and recorded four runs. They were led by Same Jessi who went 2-for-3 at the plate. The Bulldogs tallied seven hits and brought around ten runs.
The Peacocks had the initial 1-0 lead in the first inning after a double from Jessie brought
Serah Shafer around for their first run of the day. UMD responded with productivity of their own as they brought in two runs on a double two center field. UIU scored another run in the following inning after a single from Charles brought
Abby Breuer all the way around.Â
However, the Bulldogs showed their dominance as they scored eight runs between the second and third innings. The Peacocks remained silent on the scoreboard until the fourth and fifth innings where they brought in two more runs, but did not execute enough offensively to stay in the game.
Vetter started things off on the mound for Upper Iowa, lasting just over two innings and allowing seven hits on nine runs.
Abby Buckman pitched just over two innings in relief, allowing zero hits and one run, striking out four batters.
The Peacocks are scheduled to play St. Cloud State on Monday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. The games will be played at the Reynolds Field Complex on the campus of the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minn.
