The Upper Iowa men's and women's bowling teams each sent representatives on Friday to compete in the USBC Singles Sectionals. The event was hosted across four separate cities and featured bowlers from several schools across the region.
Â
Kyle Moeller of the men's team, along with
Emma Hawley,
Aubrey Kiddle, and
Amber Wagner of the women's team, represented UIU at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois.
Michaela Morgan of the women's team competed at USA Bowl in Dallas, Texas.
Â
The Peacocks were unable to qualify any bowlers for the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships in April. Each competitor bowled six qualifying games with the number of bowlers who qualified varying from each sectional. UIU averaged just over 1,051 pins per bowler.
Â
On the women's side, Kiddle pushed for a qualifying spot, eventually finishing in a tie for 19th place out of 216 bowlers with a score of 1,152 pins, including a high game of 213. Wagner followed with a score of 972 pins. Hawley rounded out the Addison group with a score of 956 pins, matching Kiddle's high game of 213. In Dallas, Morgan successfully knocked over 1,054 pins, recording the best high game on the team at 230.
Â
On the men's side, Moeller finished in a tie for 73rd place out of 268 competing bowlers with a score of 1,123 pins, including a high score of 236 in his final game.
Â
"I'm proud of Kyle for improving greatly from last year at singles in Addison," said Head Coach
Nichole DePaul. "He was able to keep up with the pace of the field. On the women's side, I'm proud of our ladies, most of which competed in this event for the first time. Hopefully, we can utilize the momentum from this event as we continue with our season."
This was the final competition of the season for the UIU men's team. The women's bowling team will begin prepping for postseason play as they will compete in the GLVC Championships beginning on March 24.
