Upper Iowa softball rounded out their weekend of play in Rosemont, Ill. with two more matchups at the Lewis Flyer Dome Invitational. The Peacocks went 1-1 on the day, dropping to Parkside 4-3 and defeating Ursuline College 5-0. UIU holds a 1-3 record after the past two days of play.
Serah Shafer and
Laila Pelds led the Peacocks with four hits each at the conclusion of this morning's games.
Ari Charles and
Alli Schaffer both contributed three hits.
Rylee McGonigle brought home her first victory on the mound after throwing seven innings, allowing seven hits, only walking two batters and tallying eight strikeouts.
Looking ahead to next weekend, the Peacocks travel to Leesburg, Fla. for The Spring Games. They see two games per day from Mar. 5-10, taking a break from competition on Wednesday. They face Walsh University and Ferris State on Sunday, Kentucky Wesleyan and Lewis University on Monday and Holy Family University and Lynn University on Tuesday. After their break on Wednesday, they resume play with The College of Saint Rose and Grand Valley State University on Thursday. The Peacocks wrap up the weekend with University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and American International College on Friday

The Rangers put themselves on the board in the very first inning after two walks, one of them being brought all the way around after a single recorded by their fourth batter. The Peacocks kicked things off with a double from
Ari Charles.
Hannah Bridgewater made it on base after a throwing error on a bunt, bringing Charles home to put UIU on the scoreboard.
Parkside recorded two singles in the top of the second. With two on base, their third hitter of that inning smashed a triple, bringing two home to put them ahead 3-1. They gathered one more run that inning as their runner on third crossed the plate on a past ball. UIU recorded two hits in the second, but were unable to get anything going as they trailed 4-1.Â
Both teams tallied scattered hits throughout the third and fourth innings, but the 4-1 score remained until the bottom of the fifth when Upper Iowa scored two more runs. Pelds,
Rae VanMilligan and
Samantha Jessie each recorded singles, two of them being brought home.
Parkside did not record any more hits after the fifth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Schaffer was hit by a pitch followed by VanMilligan who singled to center field. The two runners each advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt from
Reagan Church, but were left stranded after the next batter flied out into a double play.
The Rangers gathered their four runs on five hits and four walks. The Peacocks tallied three runs from 13 hits and one error from UW-Parkside.
Abby Breuer (0-2) got the loss after just over an inning of work, allowing four hits and four runs.
Abby Buckman took a no-decision after five innings. She recorded four strikeouts and allowed one hit.

The Peacocks recorded two runs right off the bat in the first inning. Charles was hit by a pitch, followed by Pelds and Bridgewater who both recorded singles, sending Charles home. VanMilligan hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Bridgewater for their second run of the inning.Â
Upper Iowa saw their remaining three runs scored in the third inning as Bridgewater and Schaffer each recorded singles. The Peacocks scored on two hits and two errors.
The Peacocks recorded five more hits, but did not bring any of their runners home. Ursuline gathered two hits and one hit by pitch in the seventh inning, but they were unable to bring anyone around as they left three runners on base.Â
The Arrows recorded seven hits and walked twice, but they were unable to bring anyone across home plate. The Peacocks brought in five runs from 11 hits, three walks from the Arrows and just one walk.
Rylee McGonigle (1-0) picked up a win after seven innings in the circle. She allowed seven hits and zero runs while striking out eight batters.
