Plethora of Peacocks Earn All-GLVC Postseason Honors

The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced the GLVC All-Conference selections for football on Tuesday morning. The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own players, per GLVC Bylaws.

UIndy led the league with 22 All-Conference honorees and 14 on the First Team, followed by Missouri S&T (19), Truman State University and Quincy University (15), Southwest Baptist and McKendree University (12), Upper Iowa University (10), and William Jewell College (seven).

Peacocks on the first team were Mante Morrow, Eddie Burgess and John Butsch. Second team honorees were Tyler Neilson, Willy Camacho and Zacarius Murray. Honorable mention went to Darryl Overstreet Jr., Baxter Bohr, Ben Kamara and Traegen Kramer.
FIRST TEAM

Mante Morrow appeared in all 11 games this season as a wide receiver, recording a team-high 58 receptions for 827 yards (first in the GLVC), an average of 14.3 yards per reception. He caught seven touchdowns on the year, including a season-high of two against Concordia-St. Paul. He recorded a season-high of 151 receiving yards in the last game of the season versus Quincy.

Eddie Burgess appeared in all 11 games this season as a tight end. He caught 43 passes for a total of 616 yards, his longest catch being 58 yards. Burgess tallied a team-high of eight touchdowns, which also led on the GLVC leaderboard. The sophomore showed his versatility on the field this year as he completed a 12-yard pass on a fake punt versus Quincy.

John Butsch appeared in all 11 games this season as a linebacker. He led the Peacocks with 76 tackles (58 solo). Butsch added 12.5 tackles for loss and led the GLVC in sacks with 3.5.  The redshirt-junior nabbed two interceptions, deflected four passes and blocked a kick against William Jewell. He recorded his season-high of tackles in a game against St. Ambrose with 11 and season-high of tackles for loss against McKendree with 3.5.
SECOND TEAM

Tyler Nielsen is a part of the offensive line for the Peacocks. He appeared in ten games this season while being a part of a unit that blocked for 2,674 passing yards and a total of 1,135 rushing yards, the highest marks during his Upper Iowa tenure.

Marcus Orr was selected as the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship award winner. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.

SEASON RECAP

The Upper Iowa football program saw the most wins in a season since 2018 after going 3-8. They made their debut in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and defeated Southwest Baptist 35-13 for their only conference win. The Peacocks downed Missouri S&T, a fellow GLVC affiliate, earlier in the year 38-26 in a non-conference matchup.

UIU had several teams on the ropes this season, but they could not quite convert. They led 24-7 to start the second half against Michigan Tech, but ended up falling in a 34-31 decision. The Peacocks were defeating McKendree at home as they held a 20-10 lead to open the third quarter, but dropped that contest in OT 41-34. They held a ranked football program in Truman State to only 14 points, as the Peacocks recorded seven of their own and only lost by one touchdown (14-7).
