Upper Iowa's three-goal effort has led to their second win of the season, which came at home against the William Jewell Cardinals.
The Peacocks were on a mission to score from the opening kickoff, attempting three shots on goal in the first 18 minutes. Sophomore midfielder
Darci Faichnie recorded her first shot on goal in the fourth minute, while sophomore forward
Emma Johnston had two shots on goal in the tenth and 18
th minute. Johnston's aggressive play ultimately resulted in the Peacocks first goal of the game as she alongside freshman defender
Amanda Pisciotta assisted on junior forward
Leah Buerck's first goal of the game in the 23
rd minute. Buerck became the second Peacock with multiple goals on the season, joining sophomore forward
Rachyl Benavides. Buerck nearly followed this up with another goal in the 35
th minute, but her shot was saved by junior Emily Glassman who recorded five saves in the first half. The Peacocks defense played a sensational first half, allowing only two shots which were way off target, and zero shots on goal. Neither team attempted a corner kick in the first half.
UIU started the exact same lineup for the second half, which nearly resulted in a goal three minutes into the half by Benavides, whose shot was saved. The Cardinals decided to sub-in freshman forward Kennedy Holloway in the 52
nd minute and she scored their first goal less than three minutes later on an assist from freshman midfielder Brylee Rivera. The game remained tied for the next 11 minutes, before tremendous ball movement led to the Peacocks second goal. Freshman midfielder
Mariangela Meneses made a great pass to Benavides, who dribbled into the box near the out of bounds line, made a pass back to freshman midfielder
Giovanna Alexa Garcia who sailed a shot from the top right corner of the box, into the top left corner of the goal. Both Meneses and Benavides picked up their second assist of the season on the play, while Garcia scored her second goal in the past three games.
William Jewell attempted a shot on goal in the 72
nd minute, which was saved by sophomore goalkeeper Isabella Wagner. This would be her first of two saves she made in the Peacocks victory. With under a minute remaining, freshman midfielder
Haylee Allen scored the first goal of her collegiate career, securing the victory for the Peacocks. She was assisted by sophomore midfielder
Nevaeh James. William Jewell would go on to score a goal with four seconds remaining, but it was too little too late as Upper Iowa finished with a 3-2 victory.
The Peacocks will look to add to their win-streak this Sunday, Oct. 8 as they host 4-4-3 Rockhurst at 12 p.m.
