The Peacocks trumped Drury in their home opener on Friday night in a 3-1 decision. UIU improved to 6-8 (2-2 GLVC), while DU dropped to 2-14 (1-4 GLVC).
Upper Iowa's win was powered by a 22-kill performance from senior
Zoe Semelroth, along with 11 from
Emily Kono. Alex Moses contributed four blocks,
Nicole Pozorski tallied 45 assists and
Kaci Beesecker and
Madelyn Rettler each had 16 digs to aid in the team's victory.
The first two sets belonged to UIU in a 25-16 and 25-19 effort. The Panthers retaliated and pulled through with a 25-18 win to force a fourth set. Upper Iowa regained their footing and sealed the game with a 25-19 decision in the fourth set.
UIU registered 64 kills while the visitors had 56. The home team edged out the visitors in aces (7-3) and assists (48-44). Drury recorded nine blocks and 72 digs in comparison to Upper Iowa's six blocks and 66 digs.
The Peacocks are back in action at Dorman Gymnasium tomorrow at 2 p.m. against the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist.
