Upper Iowa has continued their tradition of scoring at least four goals in every victory, as they have defeated the William Jewell Cardinals 4-1 at home.
The Peacocks opened the game with back-to-back shots on goal two minutes into the game, but both of their shots were off target. The third time would be the charm as freshman midfielder
Preston Price scored his second consecutive, and third goal on the season off an assist by sophomore midfielder
Mateo Rodriguez. With this goal, Price became the fourth Peacock to score three goals while Rodriguez joined graduate midfielder
Daigo Adachi with five assists on the season. UIU would attempt four more shots on goal in the first half, which were all saved by freshman goalkeeper Olav van Zanten. The Peacocks defensive line had an incredible first half as William Jewell was only able to get one shot off in 45 minutes, which was off target.
Just two games after being the hero with a game-tying goal in the final minutes against Drury, sophomore midfielder
Wilmer Canales scored his second goal of the season. He was assisted by Rodriguez who beat multiple defenders and made a great pass which Canales kicked into the goal. After assisting on the Peacocks first two goals, Rodriguez scored the third goal of the game on a throw-in assist by Adachi. This was Adachi's sixth assist on the season which is tied for most in the GLVC. Rodriguez has also made a phenomenal case for GLVC player of the year as he is tied for most goals with five as well as most assists with six, which is good for 16 points. His 16 points on the year are six more than the second-place player.
The Cardinals offense started clicking shortly after falling down 0-3, attempting their first shot on goal which was saved by Gonzalez-Hayes. They followed this up with a goal in the 58
th minute by junior forward Brian Vidal who was assisted by junior defender Dalton Shipley. They attempted another shot on goal two minutes later, which was once again saved by Gonzalez-Hayes who finished with three saves on the day. The Peacocks would score their fourth and final goal of the game on the very next possession as Adachi's shot ricocheted off the Cardinals defense and their goalie, before finding the back of the net. He was assisted by junior defender
Daniel Pranger who picked up his first assist on the season. Prior to today, Upper Iowa's most recent victory was 4-1 over Quincy and their win today was by that exact same score.
UIU will look to win their second-straight game this Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2:30 p.m. as they host 3-5-2 Rockhurst.
