Upper Iowa has begun their final homestand of the season with a 2-0 defeat to the Indianapolis Greyhounds.
The Peacocks made some changes to their starting lineup as freshman midfielder
Aeryn Hatico made the first start of her collegiate career, appearing in 47 minutes while recording a shot on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Jamie Kerkvliet also made her second start of the season, immediately making an impact as she recorded a diving save a minute into the game. Freshman midfielder
Mariangela Meneses attempted the first shot for the Peacocks from right in front of the goal, but she was denied by great goalkeeping. Kerkvliet recorded two more saves in the half, and she was joined by sophomore midfielder
Darci Faichnie who made a team save on a shot from senior forward Stephanie Brady. Her save was deflected right back to Brady, resulting in her scoring the first goal of the game. Junior defender
Chloe Jarosz launched a shot on goal with less than 30 seconds remaining in the half, but she was unable to tie the game as her shot was saved.
After starting the game with a diving save a minute in, Kerkvliet began the second half with another diving save which once again came a minute into the half. Faichnie was able to show off her ball handling skills in the 55
th minute, dribbling past a defender, while making her fall to the ground. Luck was not on UIU's side today as Kerkvliet made a diving save in the 61
st minute, which was deflected right to Brady once again, giving her a wide-open shot on goal which gave the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead. Freshman midfielder
Haylie Hutchinson attempted the Peacocks final shot of the game in the 76
th minute, but she was unable to score. Kerkvliet played all 90 minutes in goal for the first time this season, recording a season-high seven saves. She was joined by the defensive line of Jarosz, junior
Katrina Kazluski, sophomore
Natalie Lima and freshman
Taylor Young who played all 90 minutes together.
