The Peacocks were successful on their business trip to Liberty, Mo. as they defeated William Jewell 3-1. They claimed the first two sets with scores of 25-20 and 25-19. UIU dropped the third set 25-20, but regained their footing and sealed their fourth conference win of the season with a 25-19 decision in the last set. The Peacocks improved to 9-11 (4-2 GLVC), while the Cardinals fell to 9-13 (1-6 GLVC).
The duo of
Lydia Imbrogno and
Zoe Semelroth combined for 31 of the team's 59 kills. Imborgno recorded her career-high of 17 kills in the contest and Semelroth registered a .478 hitting percentage in her 14-kill performance.
The Peacocks breezed past their opponents in the first two sets. With a 22-17 lead in the first go-around, the Peacocks traded point-for-point until grabbing the 25-20 win. The second set remained even in scoring until Upper Iowa strung together a five-point run to take a 15-10 lead that propelled them to a comfortable lead, eventually grabbing the 25-19 victory.
UIU struggled to execute in the third set as they only recorded a .086 hitting percentage. They started off trailing the home team 6-0 and did not tie, or take the lead for the remainder of the set.
The fourth set belonged to the Peacocks as they put together an 8-2 run to take a 22-16 lead, advancing them to their 25-19 triumph for their fourth conference win.
Semelroth tallied four aces and three blocks,
Nicole Pozorski dished out 45 assists and
Kaci Beesecker contributed 21 digs to aid in the team's win.
Upper Iowa continues action tomorrow as they travel to No. 25 Rockhurst for their second contest of the weekend at 6 p.m.
