Bearcats High-Scoring Offense Beats the Peacocks

Upper Iowa has ended their second-to-last road trip off the season with a 4-0 loss to the high-scoring McKendree Bearcats.

Sophomore Isabelle Wagner recorded her first save of the day for the Peacocks, on a shot from graduate midfielder Allison Frederking in the 10th minute. McKendree would follow this-up a minute later with a perfect cross from the left-field side by junior Lena Higgins, that found GLVC leading scorer Anna Stiffler who scored the first goal of the game. Following this goal, neither team would attempt a shot for the next 27 minutes. Junior Katrina Kazluski had a great look and shot on goal right before the half, which was saved by fifth year goalkeeper Abby Tucker.

The Bearcats quickly scored three minutes into the second half, on a shot from senior Katie Spotanski who was assisted by senior Destiny Johnson. Freshman Maggie Glecker would score their third goal of the game in the 60th minute, with Higgins picking up her second assist on the day. Stiffler looked to add to her seven-goals on the season, attempting two shots on goal in the 68th and 69th minute. Both shots were saved by Wagner, giving her three saves on the day. McKendree was awarded a throw-in in the 72nd minute, which was passed in by Frederking. Her throw found junior Gillian Nicholson, who's shot in traffic made it past the Peacocks defense, going into the right corner of the goal. Junior Chloe Jarosz and freshman Jessica Ancheta attempted the final two shots of the game for UIU, which both sailed wide of the goal. The Peacocks suffered a 4-0 loss, giving them a record of 2-9-2.

The Peacocks will be back in action next weekend, with their final two home games of the regular season. Upper Iowa takes on Indianapolis at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, and Lewis at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22.
