Peacocks Held Scoreless Against McKendree

The Peacocks were unable to make it two wins in a row as they have fallen 2-0 to the McKendree Bearcats.

McKendree recorded three shots on goal in the first half, while Upper Iowa really struggled as they were unable to get a single shot off. The Bearcats first shot on goal came in the 25th minute, and it resulted in a goal. Sophomore midfielder Gabe Hallsten scored the goal and was assisted by junior midfielder Philipp Schmidt. McKendree's second shot on goal also found the back of the net, as junior forward Jack Hynes' shot rolled into the right corner of the goal in the 41st minute. The Peacocks nearly found themselves in a 3-0 hole going into the half, but senior keeper Archie Watts made a great save with just a minute remaining.

The Peacocks were so close to scoring just a minute into the second half, but were denied by great defense. Graduate midfielder Daigo Adachi's cross towards center field was completed to sophomore midfielder Mateo Rodriguez, but the Bearcats defense broke up the play before he could get a shot off. The Peacocks were denied by another sensational defensive play in the 61st minute, as junior forward Frider Blunck's shot was tipped on a diving play by the goalie. After the deflection, the ball started slowly rolling towards the goal, but it was kicked away by the defense when it was just inches from the goal. After that, UIU was unable to get any more shots off, losing 2-0. Upper Iowa's defeat has given them a 6-5-2 record this season.

The Peacocks will be back in action next weekend, with their final two home games of the regular season. Upper Iowa takes on Indianapolis at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, and Lewis at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22.
