The Peacock volleyball team dropped their final match of the Midwest Crossover tournament in Hammond, Ind. to Trevecca Nazarene in a 3-1 final. The Peacocks dropped the first two sets 25-19 and 25-21 before coming back to win the third set 25-23. Their comeback was stunted as they fell in the fourth set 25-16. UIU dropped to 8-11 (3-2 GLVC) on the season while TNU improved to 10-13 (6-5 G-MAC).
TNU rallied off seven straight points in set one to command an 11-5 lead, fueled by six service aces from Mackenzie O'Loughlin. The Peacocks did not regain a lead the rest of the set, and only came within three points of their opponent, eventually falling 25-21.
Trevecca started off with a 6-1 advantage in set two. They recorded 16 kills with a hitting percentage of 0.293, their best of the afternoon. The Peacocks responded and were victorious in the third set, recording their game-high of kills in a set with 13. UIU was unable to keep their momentum as they dropped the fourth set 25-16.
Zoe Semelroth led the team with ten kills, followed by
Emily Kono and
Alexis Moses with eight.
Nicole Pozorski paced the team in assists and digs with 18 each.
The Peacocks resume conference play next weekend as they travel to Missouri for a pair of matches. They start the weekend off at William Jewell on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. and then travel to Rockhurst the following day for a 3 p.m. match up.
