Peacocks No Match for UMSL's High-Powered Offense

Upper Iowa has begun their road-trip with a 5-0 loss to the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons.

Sophomore Isabelle Wagner recorded the first save of the game, which came in the 14th minute on a shot from UMSL junior Kayley Judy. Sophomore Darci Faichnie followed this up with the first shot for the Peacocks which was off target five minutes later. The Tritons aggressive play would result in a penalty kick as Faichnie committed a foul inside the box. Graduate Candice Parziani stepped up to take the kick and scored the first goal of the game. This started a hot-streak for the Tritons as they scored two more times in the next six minutes. Junior Kendal White scored both goals, giving her three on the season. She was assisted by Parziani on her first goal, and freshman Kylie Callison on her second goal, with Callison recordeding the first assist of her collegiate career. The Peacocks were unable to answer in the first half, finding themselves down 3-0 at halftime.

Upper Iowa made a change at goal as junior Trinity Engelhardt started the second half, appearing in her third match of the season. White continued her dominant play for UMSL scoring two minutes into the half, giving her a hat trick. Their scoring would continue with freshman Josie Maddox scoring in the 55th minute. Engelhardt made her first save of the day in the 63rd minute, on a shot that went down the middle. Sophomore Rachyl Benavides nearly scored her fourth goal of the season for the Peacocks in the 77th minute on a kick at the top of the goal, which was saved. UIU would go on to lose the game 5-0, falling to 2-8-2 on the year. Freshman Taylor Young played all 90 minutes for the Peacocks, accomplishing this feat for the fifth time this season.

The Peacocks will travel to Lebanon, Illinois to take on McKendree. The Bearcats have a record of 7-1-3 and field GLVC leading scorer Anna Lantz. The match will be held on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 12:00 p.m.
