Peacocks End Road Trip with Loss to Southwest Baptist

Upper Iowa has suffered their third loss of the season, falling on the road to Southwest Baptist 2-1.

The Peacocks and Bearcats had a quiet first half as both teams only attempted one shot on goal. Southwest Baptist's lone shot of the half came in the 7th minute, which resulted in the first goal of the game. Sophomore defender Victor Valero scored on an assist from junior defender Callum Bisset. Junior midfielder Frider Blunck almost answered with a goal of his own in the 20th minute, but he was denied by sophomore goalkeeper Dawson Sozio. An altercation right before the half resulted in cards for both teams, with Southwest Baptist being given a yellow, while junior midfielder Millo Mamud was given a red.

Senior striker Tumekie Blackwood recorded the first two shots on goal of the second half for the Bearcats, which came in the 57th and 65th minute. He was denied by sophomore keeper JJ Gonzalez-Hayes both times as he recorded his first two saves of the game. Gonzalez-Hayes later picked up his third and final save of the game in the 77th minute, but not before Blackwood scored the second goal of the game, giving Southwest Baptist a 2-0 lead. Upper Iowa would go on to score as time expired, but it wouldn't be enough to tie the game. Blunck's shot was denied as Sozio picked up his third save of the game, but freshman midfielder Preston Price scored his second goal of the season as time expired. This would end in a 2-1 loss for the Peacocks, who now sit at 4-3-2 on the year.

Upper Iowa will return home for their next two games, as they host William Jewell on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Rockhurst on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2:30 p.m.
