Peacocks Fall Short in Road Battle

Upper Iowa traveled to Quincy University for their last matchup before conference play begins. In a hard fought contest, the Peacocks came up shy in a 3-2 defeat.

Quincy got off to a hot start, scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes of the competition. The Hawks started the action by finding the back of the net in the seventh minute of the game. Their second goal came at the 17 mark. The score 2-0 held the entirety of the first half.

Shortly after the second half commenced, the Upper Iowa offense was ignited. Kehinde Afolabi put Upper Iowa on the board in the 65th minute of the game as he converted the assist from Jonathan Bayer.

The Peacocks tied the game at a score of 2-2 in the last remaining minutes of the game. Noah Gjervik finessed the ball into the net at the 87th mark on a pass from Angel Tapia

In the 88th minute of the match, the Hawks converted from a corner kick to score their third and final goal.

Tristan Whitlock and Archie Watts each saw a 45-minute stint as keeper. The duo pulled down a combined total of five saves this afternoon. The Hawks took a total of 13 shots. 

UIU took seven shots in the contest, Gjervik led the group with two attempts.

Upper Iowa is back in action next weekend with a pair of conference games. The squad competes with their first GLIAC foe of the season, Northern Michigan, on Friday, Sept. 9. As they head back south, the Peacocks face Parkside on Sunday, Sep. 11.
