Penalty Kick Fuels Minot State Win Over Upper Iowa

The Peacock women's soccer team lost 1-0 to Minot State University in Fayette on Sunday after an unlucky bounce led to a handball in the box resulting in an early penalty kick for the Beavers. Upper Iowa fell to 2-4-3 on the year and 1-2-3 in the NSIC, while MiSU improved to 3-2-4 overall and 3-1-2 in the conference.

In the ninth minute of the contest, the UIU defense was clearing the ball out of the box with no Beavers around them when the ball jumped up and hit an arm. The result was a penalty kick for the visitors. Chloe Allan knocked a shot into the back of the net for the only score of the afternoon.

Minot State was the more aggressive team in the match with advantages in both shots (15-3), corner kicks (5-1), and fouls (9-2).

Isabelle Wagner and the Peacock defense held up under the consistent pressure to only allow the one score on the penalty kick. Wagner registered two saves including a great snag just prior to the penalty kick.

Upper Iowa remains in Fayette for two more matches in their current home stand. The Peacocks will host Minnesota State University, Mankato on Friday, Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m. and Concordia University, St. Paul on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 12 p.m.
