Davenport Defeats Upper Iowa Despite Comeback Attempt

Box Score In their second contest of the weekend, Upper Iowa fell to Davenport University in a 3-2 decision, despite their heartfelt play in the second half. The Panthers improved to 3-5-1 (2-2-1 GLIAC) on the season and the Peacocks dropped to 1-8 (0-5 GLIAC) for the year.

The battle began right off the bat with a Davenport score after just one minute of play. Their offense was ignited after that first goal, taking eight more shots in the first 45 minute stint. On the contrary, Upper Iowa was only able to get one shot off in the first half. The Panthers executed for their second goal at the 36:29 mark, holding the 2-0 advantage for the entirety of the half.

Upper Iowa came out with something to prove in the second segment. Their aggressive style of play pushed them to a season high of 11 shots in just one half. The Peacocks scored their first goal of the afternoon in the 62nd minute when Carson Cajuste netted one after being found by Noah Gjervik.

Cajuste tallied the team's second goal of the evening just six minutes later. He converted for his second score as he found the back of the net within a heap of Panthers and Peacocks on a dish from Leart Wunsch. These were Cajuste's first two goals of the season.

The Peacock defense chipped away in hopes of not allowing another Panther goal. The score held 2-2 with one minute left to play. At the 89:14 mark, Davenport netted the last goal of the match, securing the 3-2 victory. After witnessing a total of 18 shots in the match, Goalkeeper Archie Watts posted seven saves.

The Peacocks finish up the first round of conference play in their next action against St. Cloud State University on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2:30 p.m. here at Harms-Eischeid Stadium. Following that contest, they began their second go around with GLIAC teams on Oct. 7 when they head to Davenport University.
