PEACOCK HUE REVIEW... Upper Iowa women's soccer holds a record of 2-3-2 (1-1-2 NSIC) on the season so far. They emerged from last weekend falling to Minnesota Duluth 3-1 and drawing a tie with St. Cloud State University 1-1.
The Minnesota Duluth offense was hot from the start, taking a total of seven shots in the first half against the Peacocks. The Bulldogs were able to execute for their first goal of the contest at the 40:00 mark. Upper Iowa took a total of three attempts in the first 45 minute stint. The score 1-0 held until the 65th minute when UMD netted their second goal. However, Upper Iowa answered back on a penalty kick execution from senior
Katie Samuels only two minutes after. The Bulldogs clung to their 2-1 advantage until they put themselves on the board for their third and final time that night in the 83rd minute of the match.
The match against the Huskies remained scoreless until the second half. In the 72nd minute of the contest,
Haley Ramberg put Upper Iowa on the board by netting the first goal of the match and her first of the season. This marks Ramberg's 10th goal of her Peacock career. The score was assisted by Rachyl Benevides, her first dish of the year. The Huskies answered back just four minutes later. At the 76 mark, St. Cloud's Jada Datchler pulled the game to a 1-1 draw. The score held for the rest of the competition.
UNVEILING UNIVERSITY OF MARY... The unbeaten University of Mary sits at an overall record of 6-0-1 (3-0-1 NSIC). This currently titles them as the leader of the pack, tied with Minnesota State for the first place spot in the NSIC. Most recently, the Marauders edged Sioux Falls in a convincing 4-0 victory. Prior to that contest, they grabbed a 1-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State. The University of Mary's Eli Olsen was named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in those two matches. This was her second player of the week honor this season. In the last two games, the Buffalo, Wyo. native scored two goals and anchored a back line that allowed no goals and only two shots on frame. She led a defense that didn't allow a shot on goal by USF and only two from SMSU. Olsen scored the opening goal for the Marauders against USF on a header off a corner kick. She then added a second half goal against the Cougars for her third of the season.
MANAGING MINOT STATE... Minot State heads to Fayette with a current record of 2-2-3 (2-1-1 NSIC). This places the Beavers tied for fourth in the NSIC, along with five other teams. Most recently, they beat Southwest Minnesota State in a 1-0 success and drew a scoreless tie with Sioux Falls. Minot State's Maddie Kindred was named NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week. In the last several matches, she picked up her second and third shutout of the season for the Beavers. She also matched her season high of nine saves in the contest against SMSU. Minot State has scored five goals on the season, each from a different athlete.
