Upper Iowa men's soccer traveled to UW-Parkside for their second GLIAC contest of the season. In the midst of a torrential downpour, the Peacocks fell to the Rangers 4-1. UIU dropped to 1-5 (0-2 GLIAC) on the season and Parkside improved their record to 5-1-0 (2-0 GLIAC).
The Peacocks created an early edge for themselves, getting on the board within the first 14 minute of the game.
Noah Gjervik took a free kick and ripped it in the direction of the goal. Freshman
Dexter Garrett connected on the pass and headed the ball into the upper right corner of the goal. This was Garrett's first score of the season. Gjervik also dished out his first assist of the year.
UW-Parkside answered back with their first goal in the 39th minute of the game. The Rangers netted two more, all within a six minute span in the final seven minutes of the first half. Their second goal was at the 41st minute and their third was at the 44th mark, shortly before the first half concluded.
The score remained 3-1 in the second half until the 60 minute mark when the Rangers scored their fourth and final goal of the match. The Rangers were active on offense, offering up 16 shots.
Upper Iowa had several potential scoring opportunities down the stretch, but couldn't quite convert. They took a total of eight shots, five of which were on goal. Attempts were taken by
Dexter Garrett, Edward Stephens Truman,
Kehinde Afolabi,
Daniel Pranger and
Noah Gjervik.
The Peacocks will look to bounce back in their next action against Saginaw Valley State. The contest is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. CST.
