In their home opener, Upper Iowa claimed their first win of the 2022 season over Colorado Christian in a 1-0 result. After the final horn sounded at Harms-Eischeid Stadium, the Peacocks improved their record to 1-2-0.
In the 17th minute of the match, the Cougars couldn't connect on a pass back to their goalie, resulting in an own goal. This put the Peacocks up 1-0, which they held for the entire contest.
Both teams set a controlled pace in the first half. Upper Iowa had the possession advantage, but each squad managed to get off an equal amount of three shots in the first 45 minutes.
Upper Iowa's ability on the defensive end transitioned to potential opportunities on offense. They had a total of six shots for the evening, but had several fast break moments with the intention of being able to convert.
Keeper Archie Watts was kept on his toes the entire match, seeing a total of 16 shots hurdled in his direction. He had pivotal moments in the match with his defensive play and managed to pull down a total of five saves.
As time was ticking down, the Cougars were in attack mode. They fired off four shots, three of which were on goal. In addition to Watts' performance between the posts, the defensive line was active the entire contest, chasing down loose balls and throwing Colorado Christian off their axis.
