The Peacock volleyball team closed out their opening weekend back on the court with a 3-1 victory over Cedarville University to move to 3-1 on the season. Upper Iowa scored wins in sets one and two by scores of 25-21 and 25-17 before the Yellow Jackets notched a 25-21 win in set three. UIU earned the win with a set-four win 25-19.
Upper Iowa's offense hit well in the first and fourth sets knocking down 15 and 14 kills, respectively, and hitting over .250 in both sets. While the offense produced well in two of the sets, UIU's defense played well throughout. The Yellow Jackets hit .128 for the match and were held single-digit kill totals in the second and fourth sets.
UIU's two middles,
Zoe Semelroth and
Sarah Johnson, had solid matches combining for 20 kills and four blocks.
Maggie Streightiff added 9 more kills from her position on the pin.
Nicole Pozorski paced the offense with 31 assists, while
Kaci Beesecker added eight.
Defensively, Beesecker (18) and
Madelyn Rettler (17) pulled together to shore up the back row with 35 digs. Pozorski put her hands on 12 digs as well.
The Peacocks will head to Kenosha, Wis. for the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 2-3. Upper Iowa will line up against Michigan Technological University and the host Rangers on Friday and then challenge McKendree University and the University of Illinois-Springfield on Saturday.
