Men's Golf Maintain Top Spot Heading Into Final Round of the NSIC Championship

The Upper Iowa men’s golf team shot a second round 292 (+4) on Friday to extend its lead at the NSIC Men’s Golf Championship at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Missouri.

The Upper Iowa men's golf team shot a second round 292 (+4) on Friday to extend its lead at the NSIC Men's Golf Championship at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Missouri. The Peacocks sit at 588 (+12) and hold a four stroke lead over Concordia-St. Paul (592). The Peacocks have two of the top three golfers and four in the top 15 after 36-holes of the 54-hole championship. 

UIU's Nolan Leaton and Concordia's Thomas Huettl sit tied atop the individual leaderboard at 143 (-1). Both student-athletes shot rounds of 70 on day one and rounds of 73 on day two. Tate Carlson sits alone in third at 146 (+2). Six players are tied for fourth at 148.  

Jacob Mahloch and Trent Shaw are currently tied for 14th place with identical scores of 150 (+6) after two rounds. Mahloch finished the day with the best round by a Peacock at 72 (E), including an eagle on hole 11, while Shaw finished one stroke behind with a 73 (+1). Nathan Petrak shot a 78 to bring his total after two rounds to 155 (+11) and is tied for 28th.
 
Off the back of their best round as a team this season, the Peacocks continue to pace the field in Par 4 scoring with a 4.01 stroke average (+1), birdies with 30, and are one of three teams to record two total eagles. UIU also moved into third place in Par 3 scoring with a 3.38 stroke average (+15).
 
Individually, Shaw leads all competitors in Par 4 scoring with a 3.90 stroke average (-2), while Leaton and Mahloch are tied for second with a 4.00 stroke average (E). Leaton is also shooting even in Par 3 scoring, which also has him tied for second. When it comes to birdies, Carlson is tied for first with nine so far, while Shaw and Leaton are tied for second with six through two rounds.
 
The final 18-holes of the NSIC Championship will begin on Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The top five golfers will be named NSIC All-Tournament, while the team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional, which will be played at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana hosted by the University of Indianapolis on May 5-7.
