The Peacock spirit team spent last weekend in Orlando, Fla. competing at The College Classic on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 9-10. The competition took place at the Orange County Convention Center.
Upper Iowa competed in three categories during the event including Co-Ed Cheer, Jazz Dance and Hip-Hop Dance.

"This weekend's success was fueled by the team's determination to make a name for themselves in the cheer and dance world," said Interim Head Coach
Kaitlyn Connelly. "The team has faced many trials the past few years and this weekend was their chance to leave it all on the Marley and mat. There were countless injuries that many of the athletes had to work through to make it to nationals and we were up against some intense teams, but that did not stop us. It motivated us."

The Peacocks placed third out of six teams on Sunday in the Co-Ed Cheer competition with a total of 84.50 points in their final performance after earning a 73.33 in their preliminary run on Saturday. Upper Iowa placed eighth out of ten teams in the Division I and II group in Jazz Dance with a score of 82.72 in the finals on Sunday. UIU also placed seventh out of seven teams in the Division II Hip-Hop Dance category with a score of 78.34 in the finals, which topped their preliminary score of 77.56 on Saturday.

Connelly continued, "As a team, we took the judges' critiques well and applied them heading into the finals, especially in our cheer performance that saw our score raise over 11 points. The dance team also received many compliments from the judges on their musicality and the bond that they displayed on the Marley. We learned what we must to do come back even stronger next year."
