The Upper Iowa cheer team attended Global's Hit Town Nationals in Clarksville, Tenn. last weekend and received first in their division.
The squad participated in two full days of the competition while down in Tennessee. On day one, the team received first in their division and was able to find things they could improve upon for the next day. UIU cheer kept the title of first in the division at the conclusion of day two.
They fell short of receiving the award for overall grand champion, but they were the team with the highest improved scores from day one to day two, increasing their total by ten points.
"I am proud of this team for working so hard to put this routine together and make last minute changes without giving up," said Head Coach Bri Lawrence.
"We had to make some changes the week before leaving for the competition, and the team took it in stride. They had spent a lot of time helping those in other areas of the routine, so the entire performance looked the very best it could for competition. Although we may not have ended up as overall grand champions, the group was persistent and pushed one another to do their very best."
